Worship at Irvine Old
We are a congregation of people of many different ages and backgrounds who are united by one thing - we worship the Living God, made known once and for all in the person of his only Son, Jesus Christ. We belong to his one family by the gift of his grace, through faith - not for anything we ourselves have done - and we warmly welcome all who love the Lord Jesus to share fellowship with us, as brothers and sisters in Christ.
We also particularly welcome anyone who would not count themselves Christian but may be seeking to find out more about the Christian gospel.
Our mission here is to devote ourselves to proclaiming the historic Christian message as it is revealed in Scripture.
What we believe
We believe that God has given us good news in Jesus Christ.
The good news is that Jesus is God's Son, entering our world, sharing our nature, in order to become our Saviour and Lord
The good news is that Jesus' life of obedience, his death on the cross and his resurrection bring us forgiveness and new life
The good news calls us to trust in Christ, to receive peace with God and in the power of God's Spirit to turn from our sinfulness and to live for him
We believe that, through Christ, God can be known as our heavenly Father, and that through the Holy Spirit we may trust, love and worship him.
Our Christian faith is empowered by his presence - through the Holy Spirit
Our Christian lives are lived in his family - the church
Our Christian worship involves praising him - as Father, Son and Holy Spirit
We believe that through the Bible, God teaches us what to believe about him and how to live for him.
In our church life and in our personal lives we submit to the authority of the Bible
In our church gatherings we place an emphasis on teaching from the Bible
In our church family we encourage personal and corporate Bible study
We believe that the world’s greatest need is to hear and respond to this good news.
To believe in Christ as Saviour and Lord
To experience the power of the Holy Spirit
To know God as Father
To discover God's will in the pages of the Bible
To take part in the life of his family, the church
To bring the good news to the whole world
Services
Sundays 11:00 am
The services are designed to bring together all age groups in praise and learning. The whole church meets at the stated time as one and the opening act of worship takes account of the presence even of babies.
There is also a “children’s time” which serves as an introduction to the theme of the service for the whole congregation.
In the second part of the service, the children go to different groups – as Sunday School.
Throughout the year a Creche is provided to care for babies and toddlers. All teachers and carers have received the proper child protection training and have obtained the necessary certification.
Evening 6:30 pm
On the last Sunday of each month a service is held at 6:30 pm in the Guide Hut, Mure Drive, Irvine. (link to map) This service has a more intimate character suited to a smaller number.
The Sacraments
Baptism
The sacrament of Baptism is administered to children, preferably on the last Sunday of a month, but also at times mutually convenient to Minister and family.
Communion
The sacrament of the Lord’s Supper is celebrated at the four traditional Communion “seasons” on Easter Sunday and on the second Sundays of June, September and December.
On Easter Sunday the service is at 11:00 am.
The services in June and September are held at 11:00am and 6:30 pm.
In December the services are held at 11:00 am and 2:30 pm.
The invitation to attend and partake is open to all Christians, regardless of denomination.
